Sony Ericsson Satio: The 12 MP multimedia monster

Sony Ericsson is a monster of a cellphone that leaves the competition miles behind with the The Sony Ericsson Satio, an upcoming phone from Sony Ericsson which has nearly all of the features you could think of. Apple’s iPhone has created such a vast market for touch screen phones that nearly every phone maker is running after releasing a touch screen only phone. The Sony Ericsson Satio (previously name Idou) has also been released just to meet that demand. The phone has got a 3.5 inch screen with a resolution of 640 x 360 pixels which is much higher that the Apple iPhone’s 320 x 480 pixels.

Sony Ericsson SatioBesides that it has a bevy of features like a 12.1 megapixel camera with autofocus, a Xenon flash along with an LED light for shooting videos in low light. The Display of the Sony Ericsson Satio has a 16:9 resolution which is the same as HDTVs so videos like program episodes will not need any black bars on the top and bottom. Videos will also look very good on the large and crisp display.

The body of the Satio is made out of metal and the phone only has a thickness of 13mm which is astonishing as it packs such a powerful camera. It supports nearly all the GSM and 3G and HSDPA bands for truly worldwide roaming. It runs on Symbian’s new Series 60, 5th generation operating system. In terms of more hardware the CPU has an amazing speed of 600MHz. There is 256MB ram on board which will be very difficult to use up at any different time. The handset also has a dedicated hardware graphics processor which will really help in boosting the graphics of the handset. There is also a video call camera on the handset which can enable you to have video calls. The lens is protected by a metal sliding lens cover which is a very attractive design cue on the back of the device.

The handset also has GPS so it can be used to track your current location and help in planning trips as well as locating places. There is also Wi-Fi with support for DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) which means you can connect it to several other devices that support the technology.

The camera also has several tricks up its sleeve. If the amazing 12.1 mega pixel resolution was not enough there is also support for Face detection as well as smile detection which shoots your picture as soon as you smile. There is also touch focus which enables you to select an object or part of the picture to be automatically focused. This feature was also included in the iPhone 3G S but remember that the Satio was announced months before the latter. An 8 GB card comes included in the retail package and if this is not enough for you, you can also buy a 32GB memory card. This phone does not use Sony’s proprietary M2 cards but goes for the far more popular Micro SD cards.

The Satio will be released next month and is sure to turn many heads when it comes out.
